Types of VPN

VPN always enables the host computer to send and receive the data across the public networks. It emulates the properties of the private network such as the server access and also takes care of the security and management of the private network. There is a point to point connection with the help of encryption. VPN helps in extending the private network and the resources in it across various public networks.

VPN is mainly known for their security mechanisms. They help in encryption and also helps in maintaining confidentiality. This is done when some outsider tries to gain access to the network, he or she will be able to see only the encrypted data which they won’t really understand. Proper authentication is done in order to protect the network from the access of any unauthorized users. In such cases the transmitted messages will be detected.

VPN tunnels are established and before that tunnel endpoints are authenticated. The access to the network can be gained through usernames, passwords and other ways like biometrics. Digital certificates are often used to prevent outsiders to intervene into the network.

There are many VPN systems. They are identified and differentiated with the help of certain parameters. They involve the protocols which are used to tunnel the website traffic. It also checks if it offers site to site or any remote access connectivity. All the levels of security are provided to establish the anonymity of the network. Only those who have the usernames and passwords will be able to gain access to the network.

VPNs can be of two types. They can be either the ones which connect an individual computer to a network or the other one can be where a site’s network is connected to the other site’s network. In a corporate setting, the remote access VPNs apparently allow all the employees to access the company’s intranet from home or while travelling outside the office.
